According to Mystica, what many people don't know is that she is the exact opposite
of what she projects on screen and on stage. After every show, she goes straight to her home and spends most of her time with
her teenage son, Stanley Villanueva.
A self-confessed homebody, she likes staying inside the house after a show. Living
with her are her mother Alejandria, son Stanley, drivers and maids.
Her bedroom is her favorite part of the house. Her private parlor is quite spacious,
accentuated by light-pink peach walls and a very comfortable queen-size bed where her favorite huge Teddy Bear stuffed toy
named Coolio rests.
According to her, she's been through hell and back having survived a divorce
15 years ago, a teenage pregnancy, a difficult job as an exotic dancer in a foreign land (USA) and all the ridicule as a second
class citizen.
"Believe me, I've been there, I've done that, so now nothing fazes me anymore.
If anyone wants to destroy or provoke me, I just play-along with it. I don't care, good or bad publicity, it's still a publicity",
she said emphatically.
Her efforts and hardwork have paid off when she won Best New Artist at the recent
Aliw Awards. Her album, MYSTICA, reached double platinum in two months time.
"As I told you, I'm a survivor. I know that I'm good at what I do, and I want
to share my talent".
Still, one wonders if she never really gets affected by all the negative things
said about her.
"Obviously I am not wholesome. I am very energetic and wild, and I know the audience
like it too. Ifever I hear a lot of bad things about me, I take as a compliment." (Remarkable)
She'd like to pattern herself after Madonna because she says "I am what I am,
take me or leave me."
Mystica thinks that her vocal style is reminiscent of Bonnie Tyler's (husky but
seductive) and her sense of fashion? "The great Cher!"
Talk about fashion, popular designers like Rajo Laurel and Bobby Novenario said
Mystica is tops on their worst dressed list. Mystica takes this with a smug grin.
"I don't care. I wear what I want to wear that makes me feel unique, comfortable
and proud. This is the Mystica's image!"
